Introduction to Thailand
Just beyond the palaces and vibrant streets of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, lie the lively floating markets at Damnoen Saduak and Lam Phaya,
spectacular ruined cities at Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi, an emotive setting for the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai. With its colourful hill tribes,
ancient cities, Buddhist shrines and a rich cultural heritage, northern Thailand is a spectacular mix of sights and sounds, from the ancient capital of
Sukhothai, to the rich diversity of Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle.
Bangkok’s bustling streets can boast some of the most luxurious hotels in Asia, with a rich variety of premier properties available in the heart
of the Thai capital. For those looking for sumptuous elegance and exceptional service this city offers a wealth of options, from the opulence of
world-class hotels, to the traditional and unique converted rice barges on the Chao Phraya River.
Northern Thailand’s unique natural and cultural diversity is superbly highlighted amongst its exceptional range of idyllic properties and resorts.
Contemporary Asian style, traditional temple designs, serene nature resorts and luxurious tented camps offer a quite dazzling variety of
destinations, that incorporate the finest elements of Lanna-style architecture, colonial grandeur and exclusive tranquillity, all backed up
by world-class service and outstanding modern amenities.
Lapped by the clear turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, these spectacular beaches are amongst the finest in the world:
idyllic havens of white sands, breathtaking coral and lush tropical views, that are served by some of the most elegant and enchanting resorts in Asia.
From heavenly indulgence to tranquil charm, there is something here to appeal to everyone.

Mongolian 'gers'
Outside Ulan Bator, accommodation is in the traditional circular
tents or 'gers',made from canvas stretched around a fixed wooden
framework. Facilities are very basic, each ger containing 4 beds, a
wood stove, table and chairs, but little else - the communal shower
block is separate and there is a central dining tent. Hot water is not
always available. This tour is therefore only suited to more
adventurous travellers who are prepared to accept these basic
facilities, which are in fact the best available in these destinations.
For 2006 Bales are again pleased to advise you that we have
secured accommodation based on 2 passengers only in each ger
instead of 4. Naturally this has resulted in higher costs but we feel
most of our passengers would prefer this arrangement.
