BIRDWATCHING
BIRDWATCHING
Sri Lanka attracts more than 400 species,
nearly half of them migrants and more than 20
endemic to Sri Lanka. The best time to visit is
between November and March,when the
migrants have landed, but there is plenty to
satisfy you all year round. The Habarana Lodge
in particular is a bird watcher’s paradise. Even
in the relatively small space of 25 acres, a total
of 138 bird species have been identified; some
are endemic to Sri Lanka and two are globally
threatened species. Take your bird checklist
and go with your guide, either at 6.30 a.m. or
4.30 p.m. Even if you just stay at the hotel,
there are birds all around. They’ll fly around as
you have you morning coffee or as you walk
to your room!Select this tailor made option
