Introduction to Canada
Experience a vast land where in parts the sun never sets during the short summer months, a pristine
environment where nature has been little touched by man, where polar bears, caribou,
muskox and arctic fox can be found, as well as many types of birds. Beluga whales come
in their thousands during July and August, and present a unique and inspiring spectacle.
The train has played a vital role in the development of modern Canada. The construction of
the Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 19th century - one of the largest railway projects ever
undertaken in the world - linked together for the first time the many provinces of the
Canadian Confederation which stretched almost 5,000 miles from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
The great trans-Canadian journey takes in fascinating stops en
route. You may choose to stay longer in the Rockies, or to add on visits to the attractions of
eastern Canada, such as Quebec and the Maritimes.

Morning boat excursion in search of Beluga whales. This three-hour tour takes in the rich warm waters around the mouth of the Churchill River, where hundreds of Belugas congregate during the summer months to feed on the abundant crustaceans. Resembling porpoises in size and shape these snow-white cetaceans are not only incredibly curious, but they are also renowned as the most vocal members of their species, earning them the title of ‘sea canaries’. The tour also takes in the site of Prince of Wales Fort, the oldest most northerly stone fort on the continent. The afternoon is at leisure. Overnight in Churchill.
