Departure dates:

31 Jul 2009 | 09 Aug 2009 | 19 Aug 2009 | 31 Aug 2009 | 09 Sep 2009

Following in the footsteps of the British explorer and travel writer Redmon O'Hanlon, the RV Orient Pandaw will make an 8 night cruise from Sibu to the Pelagus Rapids and beyond up the Baleh River. Borneo, the second largest island in the world after Greenland, has one of the most diverse eco systems on the planet, its primary rain forest home to a vast number of species of flora and fauna. Now part of Eastern Malaysia, Sarawak was ruled for exactly one hundred years by the Brooke family, known as the Raja Brookes, and only joined the British Empire after the war, gaining independence in 1966. The Rajang River, at 640km is the longest river in Malaysia, flows across Borneo from Sarawak into Indonesian Kalimantan. Though well know to many from Redmon O’Hanlon’s classic Into the Heart of Borneo, there is very little tourism here due to the river’s remoteness and lack of facilities. The scenery is magnificent – a total jungle experience with the rainforest tumbling into the fast flowing river.

Namibia is a land of stunning landscapes, endless skies, barren deserts, rugged mountains and spectacular wildlife – and this journey encompasses it all. This cross-section explores the dunes of Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert, the stark beauty of the Skeleton Coast, amazing marine life just off Swakopmund, the volcanic rock-strewn landscape of Damaraland and the game-filled savannah of Etosha. The activities provide a wide range of differing impressions, from scenic flights up the Skeleton Coast, dolphin cruises with private beach lunch, to hiking and cycling in Damaraland, walking in the Namib’s great dunes and interacting with traditional Himba people. This safari combines the exclusive luxurious lodges of Wilderness Safaris with the remote locations of private Discoverer campsites, in unique Meru-style tents. Recapturing the nostalgia of yesteryear, these private Discoverer campsites aim to recreate the halcyon days of Africa’s pioneering explorers, combining luxurious ambience with a true sense of nature. Spacious walk-in tents and atmospheric campfires create the feel of the open plains, whilst pure linens and cottons, flush toilets, showers and a range of comfortable amenities help to invoke a timeless sense of grandeur and style. Set amidst some of the most remote and captivating landscapes in Africa, the Discoverer Camps are ‘out-fitted’ to ensure that old-style camping feel with a clear emphasis on elegant comfort, to create a peerless wilderness experience.

Botswana presents us with some of the most outstanding game viewing on the planet and amongst the rich fertile wetlands of the Okavango Delta we are treated to a unique vision of nature at her most spectacular. Working closely with Wilderness Safaris, we present a stunning journey that combines luxury and conservation in a true appreciation of some of the finest wilderness areas on earth. Botswana’s seasons make any visit a remarkable experience. The rains see the land explode with colour and life of all kinds, whilst the end of the dry season see the waterholes bear witness to the true raw magnificence of Africa. At the turn of the century, explorers and adventurers made their way leisurely along the dusty paths of Africa, allowing the great continent to seep into their souls. Wilderness’ guided mobile safaris takes time to experience and explore Botswana’s contrasts and extremes: from the seemingly harsh Savannah of the Linyanti and its forests to the lushly vegetated wetlands of the Okavango Delta.
