James Turrell Museum
Perched at 7,600ft in the spectacular Argentine Andes, the Estancia y Bodega Colomé is Argentina's oldest winery. When Donald M. Hess, the Swiss entrepreneur, wine magnate and art collector, took it over in 2001, he added a five star luxury resort, with nine extraordinary suites furnished with contemporary art and spectacular views.
On 22 April the world’s first museum dedicated solely to renowned Californian space and light artist James Turrell will open here. Turrell’s international reputation stems from his extraordinary installations, such as the Roden Crater in Arizona, where he has created a labyrinthine system of Skyspaces, tunnels and meditative pools.
The interior gallery spaces at Colomé offer a unique combination of light, architecture and awe-inspiring views of the valley and mountains. Nine light installations and drawings and prints will be on display and two new pieces have been specially commissioned for the museum. Unseen Blue is the world’s largest Skyspace with a 15-foot aperture in the roof and Spread is a 4,000 square foot walk-in environment of blue light.
Bales Worldwide’s 11-day journey includes staying in the 1920s Art Deco Sofitel in Buenos Aires, with an optional tour of the vibrant capital’s most interesting sights, staying at the Estancia Colomé for three nights and visiting the historic town of Cafayate, the wine capital of the north-west. Guests also spend two nights at a traditional Salteno family residence in Salta.
