The scale of the world's mightiest river is mind-boggling. At over 4,000 miles long this "River Sea" stretches from the Andes to the Atlantic and is responsible for about 20% of the wordl's freshwater entering the Oceans. At its mouth it is about 150 miles wide and ocean going ships can head upstream, carefully, 2,200 miles to Iquitos in Peru.

A cruise along the Amazon, or its tributaries, allows you to experience the incredible variety of wildlife and vegetaion as well as the riverine communities and cultures. Exploring by zodiac will take you deep into the rainforest, particularly during the flooded forest season, where the bird and primate life abounds - the sounds are intense, often more so when you head out after dark. the river itself teems with life from the ubiquitous piranha, try your luck at fishing for them, to the extraordinary pink dolphins that have to be seen to be believed.
