Held in July each year, the Naadam Festival is Mongolia’s biggest cultural event. Steeped in the traditions of the past it consists of three days of competitions and pageantry that highlight the very best of Mongolia’s warrior traditions and attracts competitors from all across the country. Beginning with a vibrant, colourful parade of music and marching, the competition then goes on to test the skills of its athletes in the traditionally popular sports of archery, wrestling and horse racing.....

Outside Ulan Bator accommodation is in the traditional circular tents or 'gers', made from canvas stretched around a fixed wooden framework. Facilities are very basic, each ger containing 4 beds, a wood stove, table and chairs, but little else - the communal shower block is separate and there is a central dining tent.
