"Honduras has a real mix of a bustling capital (Tegucigalpa), quiet colonial towns and some beautiful Caribbean beaches. Central America’s second largest country has a lot to offer and a slow visit can be recommended, perhaps best for repeat visitors to the region. The must-do for all visitors should be Mayan ruins at Copan."

Latin America is quite rightly known for its many festival. Spend a few weeks travelling in Central or South America and you are certain to stumble across some local party. If you have some free time anywhere it is worth asking Bales or the local agents if your visit coincides with any regional festivals. Breaking my journey near Choluteca I heard some music playing and went to a visit. Several hours later after lots of backpacking and several glasses of some potent local spirit I made my way to the hotel – as the only gringo in town I was taken very good care of as I tried our my limited Spanish to best effect. Like many Latin American countries it is worth learning a little basic Spanish – 50 words can get you far in talking about family, football, music and politics! The Mayan World Escorted Journey includes a visit to Copan. Or why not tailor make your visit to include more of Honduras?
