Orangutans
The Sepilok and Semonggoh orang-utan sanctuaries have been set up to protect these magnificent apes and rehabilitate them into the wild. A visit is an unforgettable experience whilst in Borneo.

Longhouses
Ancestral home of the Iban, this is one of Borneo’s last true wilderness areas. Its national park is a refuge for endangered orang-utan and gibbon. Experience a traditional longhouse to learn about Iban culture and enjoy a longtail boat ride on the river. We recommend 2 nights at the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort.

Danum Valley
One of the last preserves of primary lowland rainforest left in Asia and recognised as one of the most complex ecosystems, the Danum Valley is home to the endangered Sumatran rhino, as well as orang-utan, proboscis monkeys, the elusive clouded leopard and over 275 species of birds.

Mulu National Park
Mulu National Park is one of Borneo’s most spectacular natural attractions. Amongst its limestone caves and mountains lies some of the world’s most impressive underground systems, including the largest and the longest caves anywhere. The nightly exodus of millions of bats from its underground caverns is a truly unmissable sight.

Kota Kinabalu
The gateway capital to many of Sabah’s major attractions, Kota Kinabalu is a wonderfully diverse mix of Malay, Chinese and European influences and traditions. One of the fastest growing cities in Malaysia, it is also the starting point of the North Borneo Railway, the oldest passenger service in the country.

Canopy skywalk
Measuring 480 metres in length, this is the longest tree-based walkway in the world, offering a unique vantage point some 15-25 metres above the forest floor. This lush world is home to some 8,000 species of plants, over 100 types of butterflies, 200 different species of mammals and an incredible collection of birdlife.

Beaches
A luxury resort that occupies a 400 acre site in Kota Kinabalu, besides the exquisite Pantai Dalit Beach, the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort has its own nature reserve and a baby orang-utan rehabilitation centre.

Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary
The second longest river in Malaysia, the Kinabatangan is home to a staggering diversity of animal and bird life, including crocodiles, snakes, orang-utans and proboscis monkeys. A stay in the Sukau region will enable you to fully explore the Kinabatangan River and its spectacular wildlife sanctuary.

Depart Batang Ai Resort by longboat early morning and ride across Batang Ai Lake (approximately 1 hour) into the Ai River. From the Park HQ, take a scenic 3km plank walk through primary rainforest to the entrance of Deer Cave. Deer Cave has the world's largest cave entrance and is the largest single cave passage in the world - about 120 - 150 m in diameter - it can fit St. Paul’s' Cathedral under its massive archway! The cave has a moon-like landscape and from one vantage point, a perfect profile of President Lincoln can be observed. Most evenings at sundown, a spectacular exodus of about 2 million bats can be observed as they leave the cave in search of food. Next to Deer Cave is Lang’s Cave. The stalactites and stalagmites inside this cave are representative of the very best limestone formations in the park. Return to your hotel by torchlight. A short walk along a plank walk suspended to the limestone cliff leads to Clearwater Cave. Like most caves in Mulu, Clearwater Cave is the habitat of unique species of plants. One of them, the one-leafed plant can only be found at Mulu; rare species of orchids and pitcher plants can be seen in many locations and photo-sensitive algae grow on certain rocks and have produced needle-like formations that point towards the source of light. Clearwater Cave has a wonderful swimming area shaded by giant rainforest trees. Enjoy a simple picnic or packed lunch, swim, relax and explore the caves before returning to your lodge or hotel. Please note that entry in and out of the caves involves climbing a number of steps.
