The Norman Carr Walking Safari

Livingstone (3 nights), Walking Safari in the South Luangwa National Park (6 nights spent at Norman Carr Camps in the South Luangwa National Park – optional add on to the Lower Zambezi for 2 nights – Chongwe River Camp.

One of Zambia’s biggest attractions is its walking safaris, pioneered by the famous game ranger and visionary conservationist Norman Carr (1912-1997) who was based at Kapani Lodge in the spectacular Luangwa Valley. Approaching big game on foot is an incredibly exciting, rewarding and wonderfully unique experience. You will be accompanied on our walking safaris by a safari guide and an armed game scout. There are never more than 6 guests on a walk – more usually 4. Game drives and night drives are also on offer as are visits to Norman Carr Safaris various community projects including Yosefe School. Safety is paramount and the safari guide and scout must pass stringent tests in order to accompany these small groups. A reasonable degree of fitness is required for the walking safaris. This safari invites you to stay at Norman Carr’s erstwhile home - Kapani Lodge before you continue to beautifully appointed camps in the South Luangwa National Park. Situated in various locations around the Luangwa and Luwi Rivers, all of the camps and lodge feature modern conveniences including en suite bathrooms, individually designed interiors and beautiful views of the Luangwa landscape. The Luangwa Valley is regarded as the home of walking safaris and during the dry season (25th May June to 7th November) guests can set out on foot with a guide and armed scout for morning walks from their lodge or enjoy a more extensive foot safari from their bush camp. For tose keen to cover more ground, game drives and night drives are of course available and most guests prefer a combination. During the Green Season between November and May, the bush bursts into life as the rivers and lagoons fill – and boating safaris from Kapani and Kakuli are on offer (river levels allowing). No trip to Zambia is complete without a visit to the magnificent Victoria Falls and this itinerary includes 3 nights at the beautiful Sindabezi Lodge – a spectacular, tiny camp set on a private island in the middle of the mighty Zambezi from where you can visit the Falls and enjoy the various activities on offer in Livingstone.  Read more about The Norman Carr Walking Safari
