The coffee farming region is a geographical area comprising three Colombian departments: Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío, respectively represented by the capital cities of Manizales, Pereira and Armenia, the most important towns. Most of Colombia’s coffee production is concentrated here and it is therefore referred to as the ‘Zona Cafetera’ (Coffee Zone). Climatic conditions, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 24 degrees, geographic characteristics, an Andean tropical forest between 1.300 and 1.700 meters, and geological particularities determine the production of high quality coffee. Travelling trough these fertile valleys, you can observe endless coffee plantations and their colourfully painted wooden houses encased by balconies which make it a very picturesque landscape.....

The Parque Nacional Natural Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo is one of 46 national parks in Colombia and was created to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean coast. The park occupies an extension of 120.000 hectares and comprises the submarine platform and coral reefs on the west of the island of Baru, the barriers of the Archipiélago de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, as well as Islas Tesoro, Rosario, Múcura and Maravilla. The 23 coral islands and islets were formed relatively recently – 5,000 years ago - due to the activity of ancient volcanoes which lifted the seabed creating favourable conditions for the development of coral reefs. Three eco-systems prevail: coastal lagoons, the mangroves around them and tropical forests. The islands can be visited on a day trip from Cartagena.....

Villa de Leyva is located 207km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2.140 m, and is one of the most beautiful towns in the area, ideally seen by foot.
