Who takes cruises?

A mix of people. Cruising is no longer the preserve of the elderly, with adventurous options (fancy kayaking in Antarctica?) attracting all ages.

What if I get seasick?

Most cruises traverse calm waters where motion sickness is rarely a problem. However, some expanses of open water are particularly turbulent (the Drake Passage to Antarctica is notorious); for these, larger boats tend to be more stable so less prone to causing queasiness. Take medication with you, and try other tactics: focus on the horizon, and consider anti-seasickness wristbands and ginger biscuits or tea.

What are the cabins like?

It depends on your vessel, but you’ll generally get more space than you’d expect, and on many boats – including the new M/V Aqua – all cabins have sea or river views, en-suite bathrooms and, where called for, air-conditioning.

What’s the food like?
