A Traveller's Tale of Cartagena
Colombia
As a first-time visitor to Colombia, an air of trepidation mixed with my excitement as we first arrived in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. Would the country live up to expectations? Would it be as inspiring as expected? Would it be a safe destination? The answer to each of these questions was an unreserved yes!
Our itinerary was a fabulous mix of culture and somewonderful sights, cities and people, but the undisputed highlight was Cartagena. What a place, and what a joy to behold it truly is. Utterly photogenic, its colonial grandeur is refl ected in its Unesco World Heritage designation; with its coastal location, fortifi cations and ramparts, it’s a compelling and captivating city. Walking the streets gave us a buzz unlike any other place we have visited in Latin America. Our three nights in the city left an indelible mark and passed by in a flash. Before even boarding our flight home, the promise was made – we must go back!”
