Amazon: Bruce Parry explores the greatest river on earth on BBC2
Don't miss the first episode of Amazon on BBC2, Monday 15th September at 9pm. Bruce Parry reports on his seven month odyssey travelling down the Amazon, travelling from its glacial source in the high Andes to its mouth at the Atlantic.
Bruce travels over 6,000 kms by foot, light aircraft and boat to meet and live with tribes, coca growers, loggers and illegal miners. He immerses himself with his usual self- effacing charm in the lives of the communities that call this extraordinary place home.
In this first episode, the crew arrive in Peru and set off on a journey of astounding beauty and ascend to an altitude of 5,200 metres. Often suffering from altitude sickness, Bruce and the crew walked to the source of the Amazon - a clear spring gushing from a rockface and stay with a Quechua family of llama herders. The team leave the High Andes following an ancient Inca route with a llama convoy.
If you would like to explore this mighty river, a haven for a dazzling diversity of flora, fauna, indigenous tribes and scenic splendour, Bales have a variey of inspirational journeys.
