Americas USA - Alaska - Country Information
Alaska, nicknamed ‘The Last Frontier’, is the largest state in the USA and is a sparsely populated land of immense natural beauty. At one-fifth the size of the lower 48 States, Alaska has 3 million lakes, over 3000 rivers, 17 of the USA’s 20 highest peaks, 100,000 glaciers and 15 national parks, preserves and monuments. Alaska’s beautiful scenery and abundance of wildlife make it a destination that ignites the imagination. Juneau, Alaska’s capital city, is surrounded by inter-coastal waterways, lush rainforests, rugged mountainsides and awe-inspiring glaciers and is a prime example of why Alaska is such an exceptionally beautiful destination.

Alaska's climate is not known for its consistency, and it's not uncommon for more than one season to be crammed into a single day. The Southeast and Southcentral Alaska generally experience high rainfall and moderate temperatures, with summers averaging 15-21°C (60-70°F). The climate in the western coastal region is mostly cool with summer temperatures around 7°C (45°F) with fog and rain common along the coast. Late August and September departures also encounter cooler temperatures and have slightly fewer hours of sunlight, as fall arrives early at these latitudes.
