The Land of yaks and yetis, stupas and sherpas and some of the best trekking on earth

Staff Views
Draped along the greatest heights of the Himalaya, the kingdom of Nepal is where the ice-cold mountains meets the steamy heat of the Indian plains.
My trip began in the capital of Kathmandu, with the narrow winding streets of the old town which are great for last minute shopping before any treks! Leaving Kathmandu by plane, the trip to Lukla to start the Everest Trek was truly inspiring, watching the Himalaya range get ever closer before landing on an extremely short, inclining runway, perched on the edge of a mountain.
This was my first flight where the plane uses the slope to stop and even more exciting was the return journey where the slope is essential to gain speed before the runway ends at the edge of the mountain – scary but exhilarating! The Everest trek itself was stunning with the best views you could imagine and 5-7 hour daily treks varying if difficulty.
Until recently, if you were to trek in this region it would involve staying or tea houses or even camping but it is now possible to kick back at the end of your treks in comfortable lodges. The lodges themselves although basic offer en suite facilities with hot water and a great selection of food and even hot water bottles keeping your bed warm.
On my return to Kathmandu a few days were spent seeing the fantastic sights of Patan & Bhaktapur with some great meals and beers in Fire and Ice restaurant before continuing my flight to the Annapurna foothills to embark on this trek as well. Although a lot lower in altitude than the Everest trek the view to the Himalaya range and especially Fishtail Mountain, are stunning with the most amazing opportunities to take perfect pictures. The lodges are very well run with en-suite facilities and hot water and offer a great retreat to relax after your daily 4-7 hour treks.
I cannot recommend highly enough a trip to Nepal with fascinating sights, stunning scenery and friendly people!
