Despite traveling to Sydney on many occasions, I am always mesmerised by the spectacular sight of the world famous harbour with its towering Bridge and stunning Opera House. The harbour is always buzzing and has a fantastic choice of restaurants and bars overlooking the waterfront. With such a range it’s a hard to decide where to eat but one of my favourite is Doyles – the famous seafood restaurant with a view over the Opera House and a glass of chilled Australian wine there is no other place I would rather have lunch! With such vast distances to cover in Australia it is always difficult to choose where to go if you have limited time. Any trip should include a visit to the Great Barrier Reef, the most famous coral reef on the planet. The reef stretches some 2000 kms along the Queensland coast and is a brilliant natural wonder, with 400 types of coral and 1500 fish, all in beautiful technicolour. Whether you enjoy diving, snorkelling or prefer to stay out of the water and view the reef in the comfort of a glass bottomed boat, it is simply breathtaking. When in Australia a visit to Uluru, (the aboriginal name for Ayers Rock) is a must; a sandstone monolith which changes colour depending on the time of day. The site can be crowded at sunrise with so many people desperate to get the finest view and take the best photographs but sunset is a dignified afair with a glass of champagne and a traditional Aussie Barbeque- a perfect end to another day ‘Downunder’. One of my favourite places in Australia is Kangaroo Island. Teeming with wildlife it has been compared to the Galapagos, walking along the beautiful beaches amongst the seals and spoting the Koalas asleep in the tops of the Eucalyptus tress is a wonderful experience for any wildlife lover. Australia really does have something for everyone and you can go back again and again and discover more and more- I just cant wait for my next visit…
