Day 15: Morning flight to Lima (1 hour) where hotel day rooms are available until the afternoon flight to Iquitos (1 hour 35 minutes). On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the El Dorado Hotel. Stay here for 2 nights..(B)
Day 16: Free in Iquitos. You can either explore the town independently, relax by the hotels’ pool, or perhaps visit a nearby Amazon lodge for the day..(B)
Day 17: Depart from Iquitos in the mid-morning by road to the port of Nauta (journey time about 1 hour 30 minutes) and embark on El Delfin, where you stay for the next 4 nights. Lunch is served in the early afternoon on board the boat. This will be the first gourmet meal on the boat which will also be a culinary experience, enjoying the best of the Amazonian Peruvian cuisine with dishes cooked in different styles and seasoned with the widest variety of herbs and spices, as well as Amazonian exotic fruits rich in colour and taste, all delicately prepared onboard by our highly qualified Chefs and kitchen staff who will spoil you during your whole journey. For those who are on a diet or are allergic to certain ingredients, the kitchen will also consider a specially prepared alternative menu, always gourmet style. Later in the afternoon, you will join an excursion to Marayali Creek where hopefully you will see egrets, monkeys and many other rainforest creatures. Once it is dark you will see different wildlife such as tree boas, fishing bats, potoos, night jars and caymans, all highlighted by spotlight. Later in the evening, El Delfin cruises upstream the Ucayali River..(B, L, D)
Day 18: After breakfast explore the narrow Supay Creek in search of more wildlife. Also, have a jungle walk in a pristine area with a beautiful primary forest where you will learn about the importance of the medicinal geotropical plants. See the famous kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra) considered by all botanists, to be the tallest tree in the whole Amazon basin. Return to El Delfin and continue sailing up the Ucayli River. Late afternoon excursion exploring the Yanallpa black waters stream to continue learning about the Amazonian rainforest and its wonderful dynamic (this river is also located within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve)..(B, L, D)
Day 19: Morning excursion on the skiffs along the “Dorado” River where we shall hope to see several species of monkeys and different kinds of birds such as terns, neotropic cormorants, egrets, herons, hawacks and the unusual horned screamers. We will also have a chance to explore several black water lakes linked to this huge river.
On the way back to the vessel, we will head for a spectacular spot where you will also hopefully experience an unforgettable encounter with dolphins (grey as well as pink). Mid–morning return to the Delfin and continue sailing up the Ucayali river. In the afternoon, at Carocurahuiate Lake, there will be the chance to experience some piranha fishing. Sail in the evening towards the Puinahua River..(B, L, D)
Day 20: Taking the skiffs, we will have the chance to explore another narrow river with a wonderful primary forest where you will enjoy observing the largest toucan on the Peruvian Amazon called “white throated toucan”, as well as different kinds of monkeys. We will also hope to see the most exotic Amazonian bird called “hoatzin”. In the afternoon, visit the small village of Yarina on the Tapiche River. Here you will see how the villagers use their canoes which are so important to them, for getting around within their own surroundings, fishing, farming, hunting and visiting relatives from different villages. You will also have the opportunity to steer yourself a dug out canoe, (under supervision) by local canoe makers. Return to the Delfin and cruise down stream the Ucayali River. In the evening, you have a Farewell Dinner to enjoy..(B, L, D)
Day 21: After an early breakfast, board your skiffs for a 20 minute ride to a neotropical forest (non-flooded forest). Here you will have a jungle walk, and learn about many of the plants. Following the walk, you will reach a beautiful waterfall in the heart of the jungle so if you plan to swim, take your swimwear. (A screen will be available for you to change.) Afterwards, return to the boat and cruise on the Amazon to Iquitos where the Delfin ends its voyage. After disembarking, you will have a brief sightseeing tour of Iquitos en route to the airport. Day 22: The morning is free. In the mid-afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport. Depart by KLM flight (or similar) via Amsterdam to London..(B)
