Depart London Heathrow this evening flying on British Airways to Cape Town (11 hours 30 minutes).

Arriving in Cape Town this morning you will be met and transferred to the Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town hotel where you will stay for 2 nights. This afternoon has been left free for you to relax. You may wish to ascend the dominating slopes of Table Mountain which affords some spectacular views over the city and across to the Atlantic Ocean.

With a day at leisure in Cape Town there are a number of optional excursions available. Take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain which offers spectacular views across the Cape Peninsula, visit the historic Robben Island, home to Nelson Mandela for 27 years, maybe a full day tour to the Cape of Good Hope including a visit to Boulders Beach to see the resident penguins or just take time to relax and stroll around the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

Today begin your journey through the glorious scenery of the Cape Winelands, stopping to try some of the local produce at a vineyard in the beautiful Stellenbosch region, considered by many to produce some of the finest wines in the country. After your tasting, explore some of the rich heritage of Stellenbosch itself, visiting the museum and wandering through the charming streets of its historic centre, before continuing towards Montagu (170 KM/full day with stops), where you check into the Montagu Country Hotel (or similar) for an overnight stay.

Today’s drive sees you heading across the stark landscape of the Little Karoo towards Oudtshoorn (225 KM/full day with stops), the traditional heartland of ostrich farming in South Africa. After lunch, visit a local ostrich farm and the magnificent limestone caverns of Cango Caves, before heading for La Plume Guest House (or similar) for an overnight stay.

Travelling over the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to George takes you towards the lush scenic splendour of the ‘Garden Route’. From here transfer to Knysna (130 KM/full day with stops), board a ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and enjoy an exhilarating walk amongst the Milkwood trees of Western Head before lunch. Later return to Knysna for a walk around town, then transfer to the Knysna Log Inn (or similar) for 2 nights.

A drive to Nature’s Valley this morning brings us to the magnificent setting of Tsitsikamma Forest, a marine and forest park that covers some 80 KM of lush forest and magnificent coastal scenery. After a walk to the ‘Big Tree’ we depart for the coastal resort of Plettenberg Bay, where there is the option for lunch and a swim. Returning to Knysna we enjoy the spectacular views from the Eastern Heads, before returning to the hotel.

The final leg of your journey sees you passing through Mossel Bay, en route to the Old Dutch settlement of Swellendam. After lunch continue along the coastline to Hermanus (376 KM/full day with stops), one of the best spots to look out for southern right whales during their annual migration (June to October). Overnight at Auberge Burgundy (or similar).

After breakfast depart Hermanus, for a leisurely drive, following the coast back to Cape Town (130 KM/approximately 2 hours). Arriving late this afternoon we transfer directly to the airport for the British Airways flight to London.
