Leave Heathrow by Air Canada via Toronto (7 hours 35 minutes) to Winnipeg (2 hours 35 minutes). On arrival your Tour Manager, an experienced naturalist, will meet you and take you to the Hilton Suites Winnipeg Hotel. Please note: the private transport to the hotel will be provided by the Hilton Hotel on arrival and on departure on day 9.

Winnipeg, capital of Manitoba, lies at the geographical centre of Canada. City sightseeing includes a visit to the superb Museum of Man and Nature.

Drive to Spruce Woods Provincial Park, where you board rustic wagons for a trip into a surprising desert-like region of ever-changing sand-dunes. After a picnic lunch, drive to Riding Mountain National Park for accommodation at the Clear Lake Lodge.

Riding Mountain National Park is blanketed with forests, lakes and meadows, and contains elk, bear, beaver, deer and moose. Visit Lake Audy, where a bison herd thrives on the high vegetation in a primal natural meadow. Afternoon free before evening cruise on Clear Lake.

A dawn safari to see elk, bear, deer and moose, and perhaps the Great Gray Owl, followed by a nature walk to look at the wild flowers which are at their best at this time of year. Return to Winnipeg for the flight to Churchill, a former trading post on Hudson Bay. In the evening there will be a special Arctic Char dinner. Stay at the Aurora Inn.

Drive to Cape Merry, an excellent location for observing arctic wildlife. After lunch, visit the 18th century Fort Prince of Wales, take a cruise on the Churchill River to see beluga whales, waterfowl and migrating birds and visit the Eskimo Museum.

Early morning at Bird Cove, famous for Eider Ducks. Later travel by specially-designed vehicles for a look at the mammals and birdlife of the tundra, including the polar bear. The bears come to shore near Churchill as the ice melts and you will cross the tundra wilderness in search of these magnificent and very unique predators. Also (weather permitting) take a 30 minute thrilling helicopter ride for an aerial view of polar bears and caribou (3 or 5 clients per flight).

Fly back to Winnipeg for overnight at Hilton Suites Hotel.
