Depart London Heathrow this morning on the British Airways non-stop flight to Kolkata (Calcutta) (9 hours 30 minutes. On arrival you will be met and transferred to The Oberoi Grand.

Departing Kolkata this morning fly to Guwahati (1 hour 10 minutes), and transfer to either the RV Charaidew or the RV Sukapha for your 7 night cruise (180 KMS/approximately 4 hours). Getting underway, sail upstream, passing the spectacular Kaziranga National Park, where you may spot wild elephants basking in the glow of twilight.

Disembark pre-dawn and drive to Kaziranga National Park’s Central Range for an early morning elephant ride, the best way to get really close to the rhino and other animals. Return to breakfast on board cruising upstream with Kaziranga National Park on the right bank. The ship reaches Vishnath around midday where you disembark and visit the town and its interesting Ahom-period Shiva temple, before rejoining the ship to continue your journey.

Today is spent on the river where friendly villages and the possibility of spotting Gangetic dolphins provide a distraction as you voyage towards the tranquil setting of Dhansiri Mukh for your overnight mooring.

This morning take a jeep safari into the spectacular eastern ranges of Kaziranga National Park, a magnificent expanse of swamps and grasslands that boast an astonishing diversity of animal and birdlife, including Indian rhino, elephant, the rare Bengal Florican and a phenomenal collection of birds of prey. Returning to the boat continue to cruise upstream.

Today’s cruising includes a visit to a local village, the perfect chance to learn a little more about life along the meandering shoreline of this great river.

Around breakfast time you should reach the island of Majuli, the largest river island in the world and the site of some unique Hindu monasteries, whose famous dance and drama performances have accorded the island UNESCO Heritage status. After a visit to the monastery at Kamalbari and the tribal museum at Auniati set sail across to Neamati Ghat on the opposite bank.

This morning visit the Gatoonga tea estate to learn about the growing and cultivating processes. Continue to Sibsagarto and visit the one time capital of the Kings of Assam, a delightful amalgam of Indian and south east Asian culture, containing some exquisite architecture and carvings. Return to the boat for your final evening on board.

Disembarking and driving to Dibrugarh airport this morning (145 KMS/approximately 2½ hours) fly to Delhi, India’s energetic capital city, (1 hour 15 minutes) where your stay is at the historic Claridges Hotel.
