Afternoon non-stop flight by EgyptAir from London Heathrow to Cairo (4 hours 50 minutes). On arrival you will be met by our representative and taken direct to the Oasis Hotel at Giza, located close to the Pyramids.

Day 2

At leisure in Cairo. Our representatives can offer a variety of optional excursions in and around this great city. Particularly recommended are the Great Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza – easily reached from your hotel – the mosques and bazaars of Old Cairo, the Egyptian Museum in the centre of Cairo, with its unrivalled collection of antiquities and the superb monuments at ancient Memphis and Saqqara.

Fly to Aswan (1 hour 30 minutes) and embark on the Nile Beauty. Those passengers wishing to take the optional visit to the temples of Abu Simbel will continue on EgyptAir and return to Aswan before embarking on the boat in time for lunch. Please advise at the time of booking if you would like to take this excursion (£155 per person). In the afternoon sightseeing includes the High Dam, the ancient Granite Quarries with their fascinating unfinished obelisk, and the beautiful Temple of Isis at Philae, rescued from the floodwaters of Lake Nasser and moved to a new site following the completion of the High Dam during the 1960s.

Sail north to visit the Greco-Roman Temple of Kom Ombo, located dramatically on a small promontory above the Nile. Continue sailing to Edfu, where you will visit the wonderfully preserved Edfu Temple.

Sail through the Esna Lock and onto Luxor, arriving in the afternoon.

There is the option of rising at dawn to take a balloon flight over Luxor. Please advise at the time of booking if you would like to take this excursion (£85 per person). Disembark from the Nile Beauty this morning. A visit is included to the West Bank of the Nile, beginning with the famous Valley of the Kings, where Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. Continue to the Valley of the Queens and the imposing temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. In the afternoon fly to Cairo (1 hour 5 minutes) for overnight at Le Passage Heliopolis Hotel (formerly the Mövenpick Heliopolis) at Cairo Airport.
