This morning make your own way to Budget Rent-A-Car (a short walk away) to collect your Medium Sedan rental vehicle. Depart Perth and drive south, passing through Fremantle once more and perhaps talking an opportunity to explore something of its restored old buildings and arty markets. Continue driving south, passing through Mandurah, Bunbury and the Tuart Forest National Park and following the Bussel Highway around Geographe Bay to Busselton, where you may wish to stop and have a closer look at this pleasant seaside town. From here your journey south brings you into the charming landscapes of the Margaret River region and onto the settlement of Margaret River itself, a genteel and relaxed town that will provide an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Enjoy a 2 night stay at Quay West Resort Bunker Bay in a Studio Lake View Room. Today’s drive is approximately 280km.

The Margaret River wine region extends for some 120 km, from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste, and with a day free to explore at your leisure there are numerous places of interest you may wish to visit. There are several wineries near to Margaret River, including the Leeuwin Estate, home to the famous annual Leeuwin Concerts, which have enjoyed the talents of several well known international performers, or perhaps the smaller Cape Mentelle Estate, both of which are certainly worthwhile options. The area is also riddled with beautiful limestone caves and there are a number of options available to take a guided tour through these underground systems. You may wish to take a scenic drive through the silver barked beauty of the Bonarup Karri Forest and visit the Bonarup Lookout at the southern end of the forest, whilst a visit to the coastal resort of Prevally Park, a popular surfing spot at the mouth of the Margaret River, is also recommended. If you wish to travel further afield, you might like to drive down to the south coast town of Augusta, one of Western Australia’s oldest settlements, or perhaps visit the windswept beauty of Cape Leeuwin on the southernmost point of the peninsular, a point midway between the Equator and coastline of Antarctica.
