 Day 6
|
Boarding the Motor Yacht Tucano you begin the 7 night voyage into
the heart of the Amazon. Over the coming days the boat sails along the Rio Negro
visiting some of the most remote and untouched areas of pristine wilderness on the
planet. Accompanied by expert naturalist guides, the itinerary takes in a rich diversity
of natural and cultural highlights, which include walks through the lush landscapes,
swimming in the clear waters of the Amazon and visits to isolated settlements deep
in the forests. Millions of years of evolution have created a wonderland of plants and
animals whose diversity and abundance is unmatched anywhere else on earth and
the days ahead afford a unique opportunity to discover something of the Amazon’s
incomparable majesty. Travelling to the confluence of the Amazon and Negro Rivers
the journey unearths an untouched remnant of 19th century colonial life in the
streets of Novo Airão, whilst a visit to the Lago Janauari Ecological Park affords more
opportunities to search out some of the region’s staggering wildlife. At the famous
‘Meeting of the Waters’ the dark flowing depths of the Rio Negro meet with the lighter
muddy waters of the Rio Solimoes, presenting the fascinating sight of two distinct
rivers running side by side for several kilometres, before finally merging into the mighty
Amazon. On the evening of day 12 the Tucano returns to Manaus.
