Day 1
Leave London Heathrow in the morning by British Airways non-stop flight to Delhi (8½ hours). On arrival you will be met and transferred to the charming Maidens Hotel, dating from British colonial times.

Day 2
The morning is free to relax before the afternoon sightseeing of New Delhi. In 1911 King George V announced that the government was to move from Calcutta to Delhi, and proposed the creation of a new city, New Delhi, which was to be built in magnificent style to reflect the prestige of the British Indian Empire. Take a look at the impressive Government Buildings, India Gate and visit the interesting Gandhi Museum.

Day 3
Sightseeing includes a visit to the Qutb Minar, Humayun’s Tomb and the Chattarpur Hindu temple complex with the afternoon free.

Day 4
Take the early morning express train (seats pre-booked in Executive Class) to Gwalior, once the largest and richest of the Indian Princely States (319 KM/3½ hours). Visit the imposing Gwalior Fort high above the city, and also the opulent Jai Vilas Palace, part of which is now a museum. Overnight at the Taj Usha Kiran Palace.

Day 5
Travel to Agra (117 KM/approximately 2 hours), where you visit the incomparable Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort. After lunch continue to Bharatpur, en route visiting the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, built by Akbar in the late 16th century. Continue to Bharatpur (53 KM/ approximately 1½ hours) and stay at the Laxmi Vilas Palace, built in 1899 for the younger son of the Maharajah of Bharatpur.

Day 6
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Bharatpur, was created as a hunting reserve but is nowadays one of the world’s most important wetland bird sanctuaries, where more than 300 species have been sighted. Spend the day here with excursions into the park included.

Day 7
Today drive to Jaipur (185 KM/approximately 4 hours) where accommodation is at the Samode Haveli. This afternoon visit the Maharajah’s Palace, now a museum.

Day 8
Stopping at the extraordinary façade of the Hawa Mahal, the ‘Palace of the Winds’, continue on to Amber, where you will take a jeep ride to the hill-top palace of the Rajput rulers. The afternoon is free.

Drive back to Delhi (240 KM/approximately 4 hours), where you have a room booked at the Radisson Hotel, conveniently located close to the airport, until your early morning departure
