One of Zambia’s biggest attractions is its walking safaris, pioneered by the famous game ranger Norman Carr (1912-1996) who was based at Kapani Lodge. Approaching big game on foot is exciting, very rewarding and is a wonderful unique experience. You will be accompanied by a safari guide and an armed game scout and numbers are limited to 7 guests. Safety precautions are paramount and the qualified game scouts must pass stringent tests in order to accompany these small groups. A reasonable degree of fitness is required for the walking safaris. This safari invites you to stay at Norman Carr’s erstwhile home - Kapani Lodge before you continue to beautifully appointed camps in the South Luangwa National Park. Situated in various locations around the Luangwa River, all of the camps and lodge feature modern conveniences including en suite bathrooms, individually designed interiors and beautiful views of the Luangwa landscape. The Luangwa Valley is regarded as the home of walking safaris and during the dry season (1 June to 31 October) guests can set out on foot with a guide and armed scout for morning walks from their lodge or enjoy a more extensive foot safari from their bush camp. During the Green Season between November and May, the bush bursts into life as the rivers and lagoons fill.
