The classic Jewel in the Crown itinerary reflects the bygone era from the days of the British Empire, which Queen Victoria considered the ‘Jewel’ in the Imperial Crown. Throughout the centuries of British rule, the Indian princes or ‘maharajahs’ continued to live in their fabulous palaces. You will stay at some of the former homes of the princes, now sympathetically restored and converted into heritage hotels.

Maidens Hotel
The Maidens Hotel, Delhi, is located in a residential area of Old Delhi approximately 25 minutes drive from Connaught Place, the main shopping centre of New Delhi, and 50 minutes' drive from the airport. It is an older style property built in colonial days, hence its stately appearance and atmosphere. It is set in eight acres of gardens with a pleasant swimming pool area and tennis courts amid large shady trees and bougainvillaea. The hotel has 53 rooms, a coffee shop, a main dining room and a small bar.

Laxmi Villas
The Laxmi Vilas, Bharatpur is a converted royal residence. It should be remembered that this building was not designed as a hotel; the imaginative conversion has been based on retaining as many original features as possible, and this does preclude the full range of facilities found in a purpose-built hotel (for instance, the rooms are not standardised and so vary quite considerably in size).

Days 7+8 : Samode Palace
Samode Palace
Samode Palace
Samode Palace
The story of Samode Palace goes back more than four and a half centuries. The palace is full of architectural delights – the dining room with its stained glass windows and its collection of old family portraits, the Durbar Hall with its painted ceilings and intricately carved walls and beautiful chandeliers, give this palace its old-world charm. Each room is designed in traditional Rajasthani style and the antique furniture blends well with the atmosphere making it comfortable and luxurious at the same time.

Day 9 : Radisson Hotel
